Where's all this Global Warming when you need it? As this is being written on Boxing Day, it has been snowing off-and-on for two weeks. But we can take comfort in the fact that the days are getting longer. But there was a spot of luck. The last evening of non-inclement weather proved to be the night of the internationally renown Mid-Island Christmas Party, attended by 26 members and guests. It was a blast. All proceeds for the meeting was in support of the "7 - 10 Club" and an even $300 was raised for them. Thanks are extended to the donors (especially for the time devoted to handmade gifts) and to the unstinting bidders, the spirited auction conducted by Jimmy the Elf. Well done, all. Things were no doubt made somewhat easier for a number of people, and that's what it's all about. Well, here we are at the start of a new year, MMIX, meaning that a couple of things need to be mentioned - just like in years past. First of all, the January meeting will see the election of a new executive and we hope to see a bunch of hats in the ring. Give some thought to nominations, even offering yourself. Secondly, dues ($12) for the upcoming year - unless you've already paid. As usual, the January number of the Mid-Island Coin Club Journal will be sent to all valid members as of December, 2008; so will the February issue, but in that case all who have not paid their dues at the time of mailing (around the end of January) will see a (*) after their names. This means that there will be no March issue unless dues are received before its mailing date. What a horrible thought! For less than the price of a half-dozen decent cappucinos per year(!) you would deprive yourself of education, entertainment and spiritual growth!? The mind boggles!
Happy 2009, Everyone.
