The January meeting saw the attendance of 23 members and guests, the "main event" being the election of the officers for the new year. Although the old slate was returned without change, it was gratifying to see a couple of positions contested. It bodes well for the club that "new blood" stands ready to keep the ranks full. Missed in all the excitement of last month's Journal was the notation that our December Christmas party raised $215.35 for our local charity, "The 7-10 Club", who responded with a very nice letter of thanks. This club supplies meals and bag lunches with no questions asked, no strings attached, to those who need it. Free. Actually, we should be ashamed that such a need exists in this country; but it does. So, thank you , 7-10.
Although it's not often that we display a business card in the middle of the club report, we thought it important that club members take note of Jeff's new location and name. His new digs, the map to which was published in the last Journal , is quite markedly superior to the previous one, lots of room and good security. It's a much more comfortable place, which accounts for Jeff's reporting that business is up. Incidentally, business hours are Tuesday through Saturday during normal business hours - at present, anyway. Also, his auctions will be regularly conducted again; see or call Jeff for details.
Some recipients of the February Journal will note that their name on the envelope is preceded by an asterisk (*). This indicates that as of the addressing of the envelopes - around the first of February - dues for 2008 had not been received. Or at least such had not reached the ledger of our treasurer. If you have paid your twelve bucks and you are "asterisked", best check things out. Otherwise the Journal will stop (horrors!!) since it indicates that unbelievably you no longer wish to be part of Mid-Island!! Such dire consequences! So easy to prevent! For only a loonie per month! As of this writing, the speaker tentatively slated for this meeting will be Bruce Berry, president of the PDQ Flyers, a model airplane club. Something different and not to be missed. Just happened to note: this issue is a sort of anniversary for us. Counting the "Preliminary Issue" of December, 2001 this issue will be Number 75 for the Mid-Island Coin Club Journal .
