The February meeting was held to the tune of 23 members and guests, the weather being somewhat more co-operative. A number of matters were discussed, among them Joan mentioning that the Rotary Club has an ongoing fundraising project by which forign coins are collected. See: coins are universal. It's not too early to be thinking of our summer projects. Tentatively, the Great Mid-Island Barbecue is scheduled for July 15, 1-6 p.m. with everyone even remotely connected with coins invited. Stay tuned for further details. As well, we will again be participating in the Vancouver Island Exhibition this August with the usual information booth manned; early and all as it is, we are looking for someone to be honoured with the position of chairman for it. (Please; no shoving). The last meeting saw the signing of four new members, including Hugh, Howard Stephens' son - so the hole left by Howard's passing last July is filled. (And you think your kids never listen!). The scheduled talk for the March meeting will be delivered by Jack Haymuk on the collection of glass insulators. Prepare to have your horizons broadened since coin collectors are, really, predominantly, "coin collectors". Please note new club address on masthead. * * * * * There being some mention concerning the inclusion of numismatic insurance from the C.N.A. in the February Journal , we are lucky in being able to place the article "If You Belong to the C.N.A." in lead-off position this month. Essentially, this is the hard-copy of a talk delivered to us last year by our Regional Director, Les Copan - minus the exhibits. But since (a) not all of our members were there to hear Les' presentation and (b) it's always convenient to have up-to-date hard-copy names, addresses, etc in front of you for future reference, this article may prove to be very, very important to your collecting in years to come. This is not an infomercial - if you do nothing else, you should join this association and utilize the services it offers. Two things you should note concerning the C.N.A.: (a) apparently the Association is presently breaking the 2000-member mark and (b) last November, Governor General Michaëlle Jean agreed to serve as Patron of the C.N.A., meaning that it could be renamed The Royal Canadian Numismatic Association. For those of you reluctant to wave a pennant inscribed "I Collect Coins" for security reasons, please be assured that the C.N.A. uses all possible discretion. It's well worth the money. "Wayne-recommended".
