MICCy Speaks:

June, the year half over (believe it or not), and big doin's on tap over the next couple of months. On the national scene is the C.N.A. Convention - Canada 's biggest coin show -in Niagara Falls . This will be held at the Sheraton Fallsview Hotel & Convention Centre. For C.N.A. members, the special rate (single or double occupancy), is $174.00 per day, somewhat higher than last year as inflation rears its ugly head, but split among two or even three conventioneers, it isn't bad. And is quite a bit less than the normal rate for the time and place.

The Convention begins on Wednesday, July 11, and includes a couple of 2-hour educational symposiums that day with another two on the following day. The bourse floor will actually be open to the public at 10 p.m. on Friday, July 13 and continue on until 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Bourse hours are 10 a.m. to 5 or 5:30 p.m. on the other days. The auction will be conducted on the afternoons of Friday and Saturday.

In between are all sorts of meetings of the different societies, the highlight being the C.N.A. Banquet at 7 p.m. Saturday night where there will be a guest speaker as well as the presentation of the major awards.

Unfortunately, another national event rather conflicts with the Convention: the M.I.C.C. Barbecue which will be held on Sunday, July 15, at the Parksville Family Park between 1 and 6 p.m. All collectors of whatever clubs, their families, significant others and friends are invited. Pop, hamburgers and hot dogs supplied but it would be a good idea to bring your own lawn chair.

The August meeting will see the voting for M.I.C.C.'s "Bill Potts Memorial Award", the winner to be presented at the September meeting. Also in August will be the Vancouver Island Exhibition at Beban Park at which Mid-Island will again be hosting an exhibition table (details later).
