MICCy Speaks:

Yes, it really was too nice a night to be indoors with spring threatening to finally arrive on the West Coast. Perhaps even summer later on. In any case, attendance at the June meeting was down to 20 members and guests. Low for us.

Happily, we can note that we have been successful in trimming some of the costs associated with the publication of our Journal . Thanks to Felix's efforts, he was able to negotiate a new deal with our photostating store and have the rates reduced by nearly half. That translates into a financial cushion that should put off any need for a raise in membership dues for some time. (Applause!! Take a bow, Felix.)

While most clubs shut down for the summer, it seems that this is one of our busier seasons. (a) The Great Mid-Island Barbecue will be held at the Parksville Family Park on the afternoon of Sunday, July 15th - say 1 to 6 p.m. Hot dogs/ hamburgers / pop are free but you might bring your own folding chair. Seating is limited. All collectors, their families, and whoever are welcome. Don't have to ask - just show up. (b) Don't forget that mid-August is coming at which time our club will be participating in the exhibit section of the Vancouver Island Exhibition. Phil will no doubt be speaking about this event and we can look forward to our marching orders in August. (c) Although still July, it should be noted that at the August meeting we will be voting on the recipient of our Bill Potts Memorial Trophy. The present holder, Jim Bourgeois, will be charge of the vote gathering, counting, etc for presentation to the 2008/9 winner at the September meeting. (Yeah, Jimmy: the busy just got busier.)

Just in case someone takes a quick notion: the biggest Canadian numismatic event of the year will be in full swing in mid-July - the Canadian Numismatic Association Convention in Ottawa . Every coin collector should attend at least one. For details, go to: www.canadian-numismatics.org.
