For most clubs, September is the start of the numismatic year; for Mid-Island, it is more like the end of a busy couple of months, regular meetings having shoehorned among them the Great Mid-Island Barbecue in July and our participation in the Vancouver Island Exhibition in August.
It was hot this year as everyone who manned the table at the VIEX knows. Still, our table was as busy or busier than anyone else's in the arena. As usual, a big drawing card was our "Free Coin per Child", each making his or her selection from the magic fishbowl. Most encouraging was the fact that many of them were "customers" from last - or even previous - years, all back to get their free coin. Tell me that years down the road some of them will not become the collectors of the new generation! Ah, the joys of being a numismatic Typhoid Mary.
At the September meeting we will discover who has been chosen as the recipient of our club's highest award: the Bill Potts Memorial Trophy. Don't miss this meeting - it might be you . And wouldn't you be embarrassed not to be at this particular meeting!
