The meeting of September 13 was attended by 25 members and guests. Infotainment was taken up by "Awards Night".
First of all, Orest Minishka, winner of last year's Bill Potts Memorial Trophy, acted as master-of-ceremonies (as well as every other office) in presenting the prize, chosen by ballot by theclub as a whole, to the new recipent for 2006/7: Jim Bourgeois. Jim has been active ever since joining our club, in the front where projects are concerned as well as our ongoing auctioneer. Good show!
Special guest for the evening was Les Copan, C.N.A. Director for B.C./Yukon. Les presented two awards from the C.N.A. convention just past. The first to Mid-Island for "Best Local Club Newsletter" and a second to Wayne Jacobs as its editor. We've done extraordinarily well in this department during the past few years - and, of course, hope to continue the streak. However, we should never be complacent; as Les pointed out, there are some really good newsletters out there and when our very best turns out to be not quite good enough one of these days, it's because the winner's quality was very high. And, really, all of us are the better for it, aren't we?
